Green Cards likely to come up for discussion in US budget

The US Senate is likely to debate permanent residentship to thousands of immigrants from countries like India and China, as the annual budget comes up for discussion on Monday. A political floor fight is expected over the budget package that has provisions to make available thousands of Green Cards for new permanent immigrants. The measures envisage to get back - or "recapture" - some 90,000 unused employment-based immigration visas and would exclude family members from the overall cap, which is currently set at 140,000.

The Visa Office has informed American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) that the following documents will be required to establish eligibility for E-3 visa issuance: a) an original or photocopy of a certified ETA 9035 Labor Condition Application form bearing a Department of Labor (DOL) certification date later than September 2, 2005 (MUST use the mail-in ETA 9035);
US introduces new visa application procedure in India

The Visa Facilitation Service (VFS) will be the sole provider of visa services to applicants for US visas throughout India from Oct. 2005. Designated branches of HDFC Bank across the country will act as fee collection centres. "VFS, which is currently offering similar service for the Mumbai consular district, will become the sole provider of visa services to all applicants for US visas in India as of October 3," Miguel Ordonez, acting chief of consular services, the American Consulate General, said.
Gov. Bush touts overhaul of immigration, student visa rules

Gov. Jeb Bush on Thursday called for a loosening of foreign student visa rules and an overhaul of immigration policy in order not to ''choke off'' international ties. Bush, the opening speaker at The Miami Herald's 9th Annual Americas Conference, said that if he had two ''fairy godmother'' wishes, one would be to create more scholarships for foreign students in order to generate ''a strong cadre of leaders'' overseas with an intimate understanding of the United States and to make the immigration service more efficient.
Green Card Lottery 2007 Starts on October 5, 2005

Despite yesterday's blog that House Committee members voted to get rid of the Green Card Lottery, this year's registration for the 2007 Green Card Lottery starts at noon (12:00 pm EST), October 5, 2005 and ends at noon (12:00 pm EST), December 4, 2005. Registrations for the Green Card Lottery, officially known as Diversity Visa Lottery, can only be done electronically through the State Department's Web site.
