Citizenship ceremonies a fitting celebration for Canada day

OTTAWA, June 29, 2005 — The Honourable Joe Volpe, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, today announced that nearly 1,500 people will become new citizens this Canada Day by taking the oath of citizenship at some 26 ceremonies in communities across the country. The ceremonies are part of Celebrate Canada!, which features 10 days of special events beginning June 21 and leading up to Canada Day.

OTTAWA, June 7, 2005 - To date, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has issued 366 permanent resident visas and granted permanent residence to 278 people in an effort to help reunite close family members of Canadian citizens and permanent residents who were seriously and personally affected by the tsunami disaster on December 26, 2004.
Canada and Saskatchewan Sign New Immigration Agreement

OTTAWA, June 1, 2005 - The Honourable Joe Volpe, Canada's Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, and the Honourable Pat Atkinson, Saskatchewan Minister Responsible for Immigration, today announced the signature of a new Canada-Saskatchewan Immigration Agreement. The Agreement replaces the original Canada-Saskatchewan Agreement, signed on March 16, 1998.
