Australia seeks workers in new immigration campaign

SYDNEY - Almost half a century after wooing boatloads of Britons to Australia with little more than a promise of sunshine and beaches, Australia is embarking on a new immigration campaign to resolve the country's dire labour shortage. It is the first major immigration drive of its kind since what became known as the "Ten-Pound Pom" campaign brought about a million British citizens to Australia in the 1950s and 1960s.
Record Number of Skill Stream Migrants in 2004-05

The Australian Government has responded to Australia’s skill shortage by bringing record numbers of skilled migrants to Australia, the Minister for Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs, Senator Amanda Vanstone, said today. ‘The 77 880 skill stream migrants in 2004-05 account for about 65 per cent of the total program.
Australia voted favorite nation in global poll

Australia, followed by Canada, topped a worldwide survey of the world's favourite nations. One thousand people in 10 nations were asked to rank countries on a series of criteria, ranging across tourism, immigration, exports, investment, culture, heritage and people. The survey of 25 nations was compiled by marketing research firms Anholt-GMI.
